Board Processing

Our Board Processing systems are able to scan transversely or linearly while optimizing the board for the most effective trimming and edging solution. This system supports cut-in-two, pass through (trim-only decision), bow, crook and twist. The versatility of our board optimization system allows it to be used for a variety of different saw types.

The latest in the family of MPM optimizers, the Edger Optimizer looks for the best solution of a scanned flitch by considering boards at different angles and offsets, as well as any constraints that the machinery and downstream trimmer may require.

Some features of our Edger Optimization system include:

  • Optimizing for fixed saw, moving saw, and robo-type saw machinery
  • Using a variety of graphical displays and interactive queue to ease solution analysis
  • Performing at speeds up to 150 lugs per minute
  • Links with MPM’s Log Optimization systems as well as MPM’s Trimmer Optimizer
  • Full reporting system using Microsoft SQL Server databases and Crystal Reports
  • Supporting MPM’s mill-wide centralized settings management system

Our Edger Optimizer optimizes by considering Compound Wane, Saddle Wane, Wane Equivalency, Bow, Crook, and Twist. In order to accurately scan and optimize incoming boards, the Edger Optimizer incorporates four key elements: image analysis, external observations (e.g. visual grading inputs), detailed product definitions, and full sawmill machinery modeling.

As with all of MPM’s sawmill optimizing systems, the Edger Optimization system can be custom integrated into your existing mill operation. Our software utilizes 3D models of your existing machinery to optimize the most effective cutting solution.

MPM’s Trimmer Optimizer finds the most optimal trim solution by scanning the board transversely and applying image analysis to detect surface features of the board. Once scanned, the optimizer considers both the limitations of the trimmer machinery as well as any option of re-edging the piece in determining its final decision.

Some features of our Trimmer Optimizer are:

  • Supporting cut-in-two, pass through, bow, crook and twist
  • Optimizing for fixed, incremental, or fully variable moving fence systems
  • Accepting grade input from both automated and manual grading systems
  • Performing at speeds beyond 200 lugs per minute
  • Links with MPM’s Log Optimization systems as well as MPM’s Trimmer Optimizer
  • Full reporting system using Microsoft SQL Server databases and Crystal Reports
  • Supporting MPM’s mill-wide centralized settings management system

This versatile board scanner and optimizer is very effective at finding the most efficient trimming solution based on price or volume, as proven at our current customer sites. The ability to fine tune for a client’s needs and ease of use, while encompassing advanced analysis algorithms, makes our system difficult to compete with.

MPM’s Board Trimmer Optimizer incorporates four key elements for providing a solution to the operator: image analysis, external observations (e.g. visual grading inputs), product definition and sawmill machinery modeling.
